The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 full-size light-duty truck has been upgraded with a bold new look, a more upscale and high-tech cabin, and greater capability. It's available in eight trim levels, including the all-new, off-road-specialized AT4X and luxurious Denali Ultimate.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
For 2022, the Sierra 1500 is offered in Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate trim levels. Depending on the model, you can opt for a two-door regular cab, a four-door double cab, or a spacious crew cab. The Sierra is also available with three bed lengths to suit your needs.
Standard LED lighting creates a distinctive signature, day and night. Most Sierra models feature the innovative six-function MultiPro Tailgate with EZ Lift assist that makes it easier to load, unload, and access the cargo area. The Denali Ultimate adds a touch of panache with a unique grille and styling elements, 22-inch wheels, power-retractable side steps, and a tailgate sound system.
Engine (Power)
Under the hood of Pro, SLE, and Elevation models is a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Standard in the SLT and available for other models is a 5.8-liter V-8 engine that develops 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque.
You can also opt for a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel that makes 277 horsepower and a mighty 460 pound-feet of torque. The AT4X and Denali Ultimate trims get a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that generates 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. All but the base engine are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
Most Sierra 1500 models come standard with rear-wheel drive or the option of a four-wheel-drive system that is standard on the AT4, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate trims. The Sierra offers a refined ride, has a maximum payload of up to 2,240 and, when properly equipped, and can tow up to 13,000 pounds. The available Prograde Trailering System and in-vehicle trailering help streamline your towing experience.
When your work or leisure takes you off the beaten path, the AT4 features greater ground clearance, a two-speed transfer case, an automatic locking rear differential, off-road-tuned shocks, skid plates, and off-road tires. The new AT4X takes capability to another level with its specialized off-road chassis and tuning, spool valve dampers, electronic-locking front and rear differentials, additional skid plates, and Terrain Mode for extreme control.
Interior
Apart from the Pro trim, all Sierra models feature a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.4-inch touch-screen display, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver's seat, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a tilt and telescoping steering column.
Higher spec models bring you features such as remote start, a head-up display, driver memory functions, perforated leather upholstery, ventilated and massaging front seats, open-pore wood trim, and a premium sound system.
Safety Features
The Sierra offers many standard and available safety technologies. Standard driver assist features include a following distance indicator, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, and a rear seat reminder. Additional features on the top trims include bed and trailer cameras, surround vision, rear cross-traffic braking, and rear pedestrian braking.
